I tried Liam on solids today. I was pretty sure he wasn't ready, but I really wanted to see what he would do. I made up some rice cereal for him. I wanted to feed him some banana but the Queensland floods wiped out most of the bananas in Australia :(

He scrunched up his face and was all 'wtf are you putting in my mouth, woman!' but he didn't push the food back out. He wasn't really eager for more, and when I put the spoon to his mouth he didn't just push it around with his tongue the way he does with a bottle of formula. I tried a packaged rice cereal with Pear and Banana too and he seemed to like that better. So I'm probably going to try banana tomorrow (I bought one today at $12 a kilo) and if it's the same, then I'll just wait a couple of weeks.

Your kid is just over 4 months old. You go to uni once a week, leaving him from 10am til 3pm (if you drive straight there and back).

You exclusively breastfeed, but your kid has taken formula from a bottle very very happily in the past.

Uni has been back 3 weeks and your kid has refused the bottle from his carer. (It was my mum once and my MIL twice).

Would you just keep trying with the bottle? I've changed the teat to a faster flow one just in case that was the problem. Would you think that 5 hours is okay to go without food for an above average sized kid? If he's really hungry, surely he'd have some, right? Would you try solids?

I mean, tons of people go from breastmilk to formula all the time. WHY IS IT SO HARD.

Why is everything I read about starting babies on solids contradicting everything else I read about starting babies on solids???
