I tried Liam on solids today. I was pretty sure he wasn't ready, but I really wanted to see what he would do. I made up some rice cereal for him. I wanted to feed him some banana but the Queensland floods wiped out most of the bananas in Australia :(

He scrunched up his face and was all 'wtf are you putting in my mouth, woman!' but he didn't push the food back out. He wasn't really eager for more, and when I put the spoon to his mouth he didn't just push it around with his tongue the way he does with a bottle of formula. I tried a packaged rice cereal with Pear and Banana too and he seemed to like that better. So I'm probably going to try banana tomorrow (I bought one today at $12 a kilo) and if it's the same, then I'll just wait a couple of weeks.

Getting ready to eat. I gave him his own spoon because I knew he'd want mine. Om nom nom nom.

Really, mum, really?

REALLY?

I'M NOT YOUR FRIEND ANYMORE, MUM.

So I gave up after maybe 4 or 5 spoon tips. Went to the sink to wash up and looked over and he was eating his bib instead.

Here's a bonus photo of Liam actually looking happy.

That's so cute. Don't worry about him not liking it. I think it takes most babies a few times to actually like solids... especially when they've never had a spoon in their mouths before. Catie was like that about cereal the first few times too, but liked avocado much better. Bananas are constipating, so be on the lookout for that.

My goddaughter made the same face when we gave her squash for the first time. Good luck with the solids!

Adorable! My son didn't start liking solids until about 10 months, then went off them after a month until about 14 months and now he loooooves food.

My older daughter didn't get on the solid train until she was around a year. She just didn't have much interest.

By the way, I think I may have accidentally stopped folloing you on twitter. What's your twitter name again?

He's so cute, and those faces are hilarious!
Fwiw, my kids used to make horrible faces even when they DID like the food! Nicholai would be making awful faces but if I took the food away he would cry! I think the taste was just so super strong to him he couldn't help it.
I am so sad about bananas being so expensive. At $12 a kilo I can't afford them because we have to buy so many for everyone in the family. It makes me sad!
