I have been really lax in documenting what Liam's been getting up to as he grows up - I didn't think it'd be so easy to forget but it is! So I thought I'd just dump this month's phone photos here and give myself an update.

8 months marks the first time that the kids at Mother's Group actually start noticing each other and interacting. They don't do much but take each other's toys and accidentally kick each other in the head, but it's a start. After a good start, I think it's obvious that Liam's going to be the smallest kid. Everytime I borrow someone's Jolly Jumper, I have to adjust it just so that Liam's feet can touch the ground.

Liam has really started to crawl properly today, and to crawl towards things in the distance. We've fished out 3 things out of his mouth today - I thought my floor was clean, but obviously not clean enough. He can sit up from a crawling position, and from the sit, pull himself up onto furniture. He has yet to learn how to bend his knees, or how to get down once he's standing.

He's also still letting out constant streams of BABABABA and MUMAMAMAMAs. He also has a fake laugh that sounds like 'HuhHAH!' that he uses to get attention.

His favourite song is the one I use to put his socks on. The one that goes... 'Do you put your socks on your ears, on your ears, your socks on your ears, uh huh? UH UH. etc' He thinks it's hilarious.

He's still waking up at least twice in the night, and this past week or two, been REALLY protesting going down to sleep. I normally put him down to sleep and sing Twinkle Twinkle / Baa Baa Black Sheep until he falls asleep. But then he started to need me to pat his bum while I did it after a while. Then he needed me to do it as soon as I put him in the cot. Now he's hysterically crying when I put his sleep sack on - huge hiccuping sobs and gulps and I have to feed him off to sleep. I don't know what happened, but I'm going to persevere with putting him in his cot.

Liam stole one of my brownies last week and wouldn't let it go and he inhaled it in two seconds flat. I have never seen him eat something so fast in my life. My SIL Amy almost cried she was laughing so hard at him. They were home made so besides the high sugar content there was nothing in there he shouldn't be eating, but I am much more careful with my food now, believe me!

Liam's much better at eating food now, and after the brownie incident, I've been giving him more and more food off our table. He still doesn't have his pincer grip down and palms all his food. He grabs the food in his palm, squashes it, then stuffs it in his mouth. I have to give him his food one by one or he thinks he has to eat everything on his tray all at once. I once made the mistake of giving him 4 sandwiches on his tray. He picked up one, scrunched it in his mouth, picked up another two - one in each hand, then noticed one left on his tray, so he managed to pick it up with his index finger while his palm was full of sandwich.

My SIL Chloe gave him peas last night not knowing his habit, and he spent 10 seconds chasing the peas around his tray trying to get them all in the one palm so he could stuff them all into his mouth at once. He managed it, amazingly.

He'll eat anything I give him, though he's not fond of yoghurt. He won't actively open his mouth or grab the spoon when I'm trying to feed him yoghurt. He's had pretty much everything that's in my everyday diet except peanut butter, honey, and citrusy/acidic type fruits. Oh, and leafy vegetables, I haven't worked that one out yet.

The other mothers in Mum's Group are quite astounded at this as they are more conservative in what they feed their kids (all super healthy foods etc) but they also feed their kids a helluva lot of jarred baby food. Liam doesn't like the stuff so much because of the consistency. The other mums also don't like the mess that baby-self-feeding creates and they worry about choking. Me, I just like the fact that I don't have to make Liam his own food anymore if Adam and I are eating healthy.

Liam's finally gotten over his fear of his 12 month old cousin Jimmy. He now watches Jimmy's every move like it's the greatest thing ever and tries to copy him. Jimmy likes to share all his things with Liam, though sometimes a bit aggressively at his face. (as opposed to Liam's 24 month old cousin Tilly who takes all her toys that Liam touches - haha 2 year olds)

Last night we had dinner at Jimmy's house and Jimmy gave all his dinner to Liam. He either passed it into Liam's hand, or put it on Liam's tray. Liam wolfed it all down, then stole the food that was on Jimmy's tray. WHY WON'T YOU GROW, LIAM? Jimmy wasn't feeling so well, so didn't feel like eating. Pity, my SIL Chloe had specially made him slightly crumbed baked fish, and baked sweet potato. It was delicious. Liam thought so. Liam probably thought 'why doesn't my Mum cook like this?'

I'm very pleased by Liam getting over his fear of Jimmy as it means I can visit Chloe more often as she lives around the corner.

Liam knows that iPhones mean you make swipey finger movements. His favourite game is Paint Sparkles, where his swipey finger movements make colourful lines that sparkle and make tinkly sounds. This is one of his masterpieces. He managed to save it into my phone gallery by himself. I have no idea where the save button actually is on that app.

I'm currently being torn between 'KIDS SHOULD HAVE LIMITED TO NO SCREENTIME' and 'COMPUTER LITERACY IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE IMPORTANT'. I think the answer is somewhere in between.

Liam likes eating lunch at the park. The seagulls like when Liam eats lunch at the park.

Our local park is sprawling and expansive with many areas and many things to climb, swing, slide, bounce and do. Liam likes going with me on the seesaw, but isn't so big on the slide.

What he really really likes is the swing:

(taking photos of a kid on a swing is really difficult to time! I kept missing the shot!)
One of the swings has a high back, handles and a 3 point harness, just for babies. It's marvellous and Liam thinks it's the best.
He also likes to eat all the gumnuts and leaves he finds on the ground. Dammit.

Ha! That's a hilarious boy :) I write about the most significant events of my kids to their LJ accounts because it's impossible to remember all things that they do.

That picture of him in the bear suit on the table with the seagull on the table is amazing!

I hear you on the screentime thing. Honestly, we do, all-told about 1-2 hours of screentime a lot of days, from the iPhone to watching videos on the computer, to a Netflix-ed TV show or two. But we fill all the rest of his time with reading books, running around the playground, talking, and singing, that I feel like it all balances out. The real danger, IMO, is relying entirely on screentime and then not spending the rest of the time engaged in other types of physical/mental stimulation. *shrug*

I know this is probably really creepy of me as we've rarely ever spoken, but this is so adorable! I love babies and your son is precious. Thanks for posting and for keeping me on your f-list :)

I actually think the pic of him on the swing is made of win just because it captures the 'Whee!' face so well.
