Okay, so it was amazing, we all agreed on that, and it was mean of them to disguise the episode as one of their lighthearted silly episodes.
I just have some queries and ponderings now.
Is it fair to expect continuity and less gaping plot holes now? I've always forgiven it in the past because of the episodic nature of the show and the fact that well, it's a family show, but now I'm getting a bit confused and probably have to go back and watch all my DVDs again just to get a grasp on what's what.
Does anyone else get the feeling that Merlin has made bad decisions regarding magic!reveal? Like had Merlin comforted Morgana back when she was feeling scared and vulnerable, just to say 'I know what you're going through, I'm magic too, we'll just have to wait for Arthur to be king, please..' we wouldn't have gotten his psycho evil Morgana.
A psycho evil Morgana whose goal is now to claim the throne? Why is that her goal? And once she's there, what does she want to do with it? I don't get it :(
Arthur obviously trusts Merlin, he trusted him to tell him he was going to turn to magic, even asked his advice and opinion! Trusted Merlin to come with him to visit the sorcerer, and wanted him there while the sorcerer healed his father. He was breaking all sorts of Camelot laws, and going against everything he's been taught, but trusted Merlin with it. But Merlin did not trust Arthur in return.
I don't think that Arthur setting himself against magic is the hugest setback in the world - his mind is obviously on it now, and it was good to see that he was open minded about it. And you know, darkest hour is before the dawn and all that. Plus you know, this drags it out for another season and a half :D We're just starting on the real story arc now.
I think the eventual reveal is going to be quite good. Quite restored my faith.
I just *don't* understand why Gaius won't tell Arthur about Agravaine and his being in cahoots with Morgana. They spent all last seasons not spilling the beans about Morgana and look where that got them? Is he worried that Arthur won't believe them? Who cares?
Why not tell Arthur that there was an enchantment around his neck?
And I don't understand why Arthur believes that magic killed his father when his father was dying *anyway*. A dagger killed his father!
Also, Agravaine is Ygraine's brother, right? What's the official story behind her death? Agravaine mentioned that magic killed her, so what does Arthur know about that? I can't remember how much of his birth story he knows :(
And while the Arthur/Merlin relationship is pretty much the greatest thing ever this season, it seems to have really come at an expense of the Arthur/Gwen relationship. Okay, I don't know whether they don't want to build on Arthur/Gwen so much so that when the inevitable affair happens we all don't want to stomp Gwen's face in, or whether they're just terrible at handling it. The whole idea of King marrying servant girl is so wildly romantic to me, I just don't like seeing them screw it up. Arthur's father died and Gwen was hardly anywhere to be seen (mostly because they had to be Merlin scenes). Arthur hardly seems to hang out with Gwen at all :(
Colin Morgan is ridiculously good looking. Sorry, just had to be said.
