good things

- I went on a run again today too, this is great :)

- I didn't have anything in my pantry really for dinner, but I managed to pull together a lovely pumpkin soup, but then we had no bread, but for some reason (that reason probably being that I'm Asian) I had roti bread in the freezer, so I put a bit of curry powder in the soup and made roti, and it all turned out really yum.

- Steam was having a sale on the 'You Need a Budget' program, $15, down from $60, and taking control of the finances wasn't really part of my resolutions this year, but it's always a good idea so I bought it. It seems really great, I'm so optimistic about being able to be a month (at least) ahead now, instead of living paycheck to paycheck. It budgets monthly, and Adam gets paid weekly, so I was confused at first, because the first rule of that program is to budget with the money you *have*, so I was always so well overbudget for the month, then I tried to put in Adam's future income for the month (because he's definitely going to get paid) and then nothing worked because I was forecasting. I beat it into submission now and I'm so excited about paying off the credit card now, and getting some savings happening, sooner than I thought.

- [livejournal.com profile] oohasparklie is doing a No Soda thing, (can you believe I typed in dreagonfli instead of your LJ name, if I meet you under one name, you're stuck with that name forever in my head) and that's something I'd like to do too, I had some yesterday but I can start that as of now. I don't drink anything else but water or milk (full cream but idc about that) but I easily get into SOFT DRINK EVERY DAY sort of moods which is really bad. Come join us kick a soda habit!

- I found that it is really easy to apply for university for Adam, hopefully they'll accept him :)

- Since Adam's been on his little Christmas holidays, Liam's really taken to him, and preferring him over me, which is nice, he was never very close to Adam which Adam was a little sad about. Too bad Adam goes back to work on Monday.

- OH MY GOODNESS ELEMENTARY WAS SO GOOD! I LOOOOOOOOOVED IT. I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. It's basically everything I wanted in a show. I love the fact that Sherlock is going through character growth - he's actually learning things about relationships and that even though he may be a superior intellect, his dealings with others may not always be the right way to go about things. I love Moriarty and her obsession with Watson - that she can see that Watson has helped change Sherlock and she is fascinated by the very idea and maybe wanting that for herself. I love Sherlock/Moriarty - it's like everything I love about the enemy pairing I ship in Mulder/Krycek or Harry/Draco, where they're opposing forces, but drawn to each other and bring out different things in each other and is just so damn perfect. I love Watson's dealing with Moriarty how she shows no fear. I love DETECTIVE BELL.

Now, everyone is sick of comparing Elementary and Sherlock and I get it, and I love them both, but I feel like I *am* disappointed in Sherlock *because* of Elementary. I think this post on Tumblr summed it up really well.

- Okay I have to go because Toby is sitting on Liam's head. With his hands on his hips.

Glad that all is going well with things so far for the year! Good on you for the running; I like the idea, but getting going is tough. That pumpkin soup sounds so good, too. Drooling!

I'm a bit stressed about Adam's work situation, once that gets settled I think it will be a good year. :)

[identity profile] waxrose.livejournal.com 2014-01-04 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that has definitely got to be stressful. :/ I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys!

Pretty please may I have your pumpkin soup recipe should you have the time to write it up? I'd love to try and make it but I've just got no idea where to even start. (Well, pumpkin would be a good start...)

[identity profile] wickedcherub.livejournal.com 2014-01-04 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really have a recipe! I just take a whole heap of pumpkin (maybe half of one) a couple of potatoes, an onion, and cut them up small. A leek too, if you have one but I never do. I then shove it in a pot with enough stock to just cover the vegetables. Oh maybe a bit of garlic too. So, maybe 2.5 cups chicken or vegetable stock. One cup of cream, Ish? Cook it all up, maybe 20-30 minutes, blend it with a stick blender, add salt, pepper, various other spices. :)

Thanks!

I also have to thank you for the rec to Captive Prince. I was up til 8am reading both volumes last night, and omgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg. I can't *wait* for Volume 3.

I know I know I know there are no words for the depth of my feels

[identity profile] procrastinates.livejournal.com 2014-01-05 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Mine either T_T I imagine I'll re-read it about eighty times between now and volume 3's release. Ughhhhh Laurentttt

good for you for keeping up the running bit! I prolly need to start up jumping or at least doing some push ups and things, but oh, I would rather do other things, lol.

I did a soda "cleanse" a year and a half ago after I went to the dentist a few times ago. She kind of got through to me about how I used to drink it; that is, I would open up a 12 ounce can and sip it over the afternoon... sort of in a ritual way, so even though I wouldn't end up finishing it, I would be doing bad things to my mouth. I don't do that anymore, I still drink soda, but I buy the smaller cans and (if I drink one at all) I just limit it to 20 minutes and get some water after. I did end up going a week or so without that burning desire for OMG PEPSI.

gah! sibling rivalry.. so over my kids fighting. cannot wait till school starts again on Monday.

I'm terrified of going to the dentist and just being told off, and not having enough money to fix everything :(

I know what you mean about being disappointed in Sherlock because of Elemetary. I watched Sherlock and quite enjoyed it. However, when Elementary came along, I liked it much, much better.

[identity profile] wickedcherub.livejournal.com 2014-01-04 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I feel like Elementary is a bit silly because the actual cases are kind of lame, but it doesn't stop me from watching it as soon as it airs. Sherlock is flashier and really beautifully shot and all of that but sometimes it makes me want to throw things at the TV.

Nathaniel's in a total daddy phase now, too, finally, since mommy is a big pregnant couch lump now. It's somewhat of a relief for me since he's usually a limpet on my side.

I haven't even watched Sherlock, which I guess tells you everything you need to know about that, but yes, the last Elementary was so great!

I love how Toby's the muscle of your kids. Idk why, it just always cracks me up.

Oh god, when I was heavily pregnant, Liam wasn't two yet so he still wanted carrying everywhere :(

I think that we've drummed it in so heavily into Liam that he's not allowed to push Toby and now Toby is bigger it doesn't seem fair anymore so we'll have to redo these rules. :D

I was doing really well about not drinking soda until we had some really hot weather and I got into the habit of getting a Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze (basically like a slurpee/slushie) at Taco Bell every day. Taco Bell is the only restaurant by my work, and the freezes (or any medium drink) are only $1 from 2-5pm, which is right when my lunch falls. D:

It's really hard - we're having pizza for dinner tonight, and I think it'll be hard not to have soft drink to go with the greasyness!

Yeah, there's just some foods I really want a soda with!
