Oh hell no.

So I've had a really crap day what with Liam being cranky and me being morning sick and Adam being out all day and the rest of my family at a wedding.

Just checking my facebook and I had this conversation with this woman:

I am hormonal and angry and not very good at being civil right now but jeeeeez. I hardly ever see things like that on my Facebook, since my Brother in Law separated from his wife. And what *really* got me was the 'not being racist' line. I think I would have just passed on by if she hadn't said that.

As soon as someone says "I'm not racist, but..." or similar, as in this case, you can be damn well sure the next words out of their mouth are going to be a clanger of racism! Drives me nuts. I totally agree with you and I would have had a go at her as well.

Yuuuup. It's right up there with, "No offense, but..." and "I like you a lot, but..."

Except worse, cuz, ya know, RACIST.

Yup. "I'm not *ist" is always a sure sign that whatever is going to come out of their mouth next is going to be horribly *ist.

"I'm not racist but" should be stricken from general conversation, IMO. It never leads anywhere good and the person saying know damn well knows better.

She was WAY out of line, and obviously racist.

Ugh, I don't even understand the mentality that would make your first thought "was it a non-Australian"? I think it's good you said something, people shouldn't be allowed to say stuff like that and get away with thinking that other people think it's ok.

i regularly use "BUT I'M FRIENDS WITH TINA DEARING" in response to suggestions that i'm racist

'Not being racist' = being racist
'With all due respect' = with none whatsoever
'No offense, but' = I am about to be a tremendous dickwad
