Lol the only het I read in Merlin fandom involves morgana. And the last het fic I enjoyed was Gwen/Uther XD

Unfortunately, the one pairing I won't read is A/G, which is probably the prominent het pairing in this fandom.

I find Morgana really awkward to read, because she's you know, evil. And if the stories are written before that well, she's gonna become evil.

You should try Gwaine/Elena. It's amazing.

I can understand A/G being a bit naff - not sure why people write stories about relationships that are canon. I get writing plotty fics that aren't based around relationships but not actual shippy fics. Though I guess people need their porn.

I love reading Morgana a lot more now than I did before, but I think it's because I have a thing for dark fics. Morgana lends herself really well for all sorts of nastiness I can't imagine the rest of the crew doing. (But I've also read some Merlin/Morgana modern AUs that had no hint of her evilness, and that was fun too.)

As for writing shippy fic for a canon couple... the last fandom I was in, I did that. It's more about the porn, yeah, and getting all those "missing scenes." I think that fandom was the closest I'd ever gotten to "OTP"-ing a canon couple, actually, though I'm always open to read new pairings.
