Daily Happiness

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I haven't been very happy today. I thought I'd found a way that would help Liam sleep but it wasn't very safe and was looking for safer options. I asked P101 and got a few helpful comments but I also got a few people telling me what I was doing was actually very dangerous. So I've stopped.
What upset me was the very last commenter after the whole thing was over has insinuated that I would be upset when I go to jail after I kill my baby so to stop yanking people's chains.

WHO THE FUCK SAYS SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO SOMEONE ELSE? WHO WOULD BE UPSET ABOUT A JAIL SENTENCE IF YOU HAVE KILLED YOUR OWN CHILD WTF.

You don't say things like that about people's babies.

Anyway. Happy things!

1. We went to my Sister In Law's impromptu baby shower today as it's her 2nd child. It was nice to get out of the house and eat lovely morning tea. Sandwiches, cupcakes, biscuits, profiteroles, fruit kebabs oh my!

Liam looked really cute in his new hoodie.

2. Dangerous sleeping habits aside, Liam's been sleeping much better today. He took a nap in the morning with me in bed, and has slept in his cot a couple of times. Normally he will wake up after 15 min of being in the cot.

3. Good Game is back on TV! I missed the show so much.

4. Adam is having a day off tomorrow!

5. I've started to organise Adam's 30th birthday. It might actually not be last minute for a change. He deserves a good birthday, I still owe him 2 years worth of presents.

6. I <3 my Twitter friends a lot. I'm excited to go see a lot of them on Monday for Valentine's Day. Adam doesn't do Valentine's, and he offered to look after Liam so I can go see my friends.

That's it for now!

I don't think we've ever met IRL have we? YAY MONDAY

[identity profile] wickedcherub.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I went to Taco Bills once and you had just left. I was advised that 'Connie wears that Steampunk thing ALL. THE. TIME.' :D This was pre-Twitter though when we really didn't know you did dress nicely all the time.

Two internet people I've met IRL are going to meet IRL and I might be there to see it, IRL!

[identity profile] wickedcherub.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
hahaha you had just left too! And you came back later and looked after Ash, but I had left then. I was a sad panda because I like you.

OH MAN THE FASHION PRESSURE. ;D

[identity profile] wickedcherub.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)

That place can be so helpful and supportive sometimes, and a pack of wolves other times, which is hilarious when smug 19-year-old child care workers post with "tips" for parents, but discouraging at times like this. I remember once Finn got a chemical burn from a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and I posted something like "holy shit, don't leave these around your bathtubs" and I got a lot of mean comments like "Well, what kind of fool ever thought that putting caustic chemicals in their child's face was a GOOD idea? DUHHHHHHH" I actually thought the Magic Eraser worked because it had some kind of... like... magic texture as it had never bothered my ubersensitive skin, and I didn't leave it where he'd rub it on his face on purpose.

I think all questions about infants should be prefaced with "I have PPD and..." because then everyone is nice.

[identity profile] wickedcherub.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha with the PPD thing though, you get a lot of 'have you seen your doctor?' 'you should get real help.'

You mean you didn't try to clean his face with the Magic Eraser? :D

I remember when I was over breastfeeding and posted about it, I got a comment from a 'I'm not a parent but...' and the poor girl meant well, and I appreciated the comment regardless but all sorts of hell rained down on her.

My husband asked me why I even bothered asking the Internet, but you're right, they can be helpful!

That was a really douhe'-y thing to say and there is no reason to say that. Everyone as a parent makes mistakes. As every child is different and precious and as ev ery parent is different and precious, there is no one way or RIGHT way to bring up a child. you went to P101 for advice, becase you admit that you DIDN't know. Instead of saying 'no maybe that isn't a good idea', they shot you down and horribly at that. If they are internet bullies then I hate to see how the kids grow up (just sayin')

Man, I love P101. Except for when it sucks balls.

Yeah, I was kind of appalled that that woman said that to you. Douchy! Just wanted to say though that the sleeping thing gets better. Some babies just like to be held when they sleep. My daughter would only nap in someone's arms from birth to about 3-4 months, then she would nap in the swing, which was awesome. that first 3 months really is the 4th trimester and they just like a lot of touching and holding and snuggling. It's a total pain in the ass though when you want to go to the bathroom or take a shower or eat something that requires more than one hand though.

People on LJ are assholes. Don't let it get you upset. Half of them are trolls anyway.

Liam is ADORABLE!!

[identity profile] ms-hecubus.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Knowing that community I'm surprised at how helpful a lot of the commenters were. That one obviously decided she needed to use the entire community's allotment of asshole in her one comment.

PS: Kira sleeps in a bouncer for reflux and she stays asleep much better when I use the vibration feature. I swaddle her with a Swaddle Me blanket, tuck another blanket in around her and turn on the vibration. She's sleeping 3 to 5 hours a stretch since I started that. It's worth a try if you're desperate.

[identity profile] wickedcherub.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like, I knew I was in for it when I posted and I was cool up until that point. Normally jerks on the net don't bother me so much, but they're right, I'm tired and frazzled.

[identity profile] skittish-derby.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, not nice of her. you didn't say "hey! look at me I am smothering my baby!" you said "help! I am doing this wrong and I am aware it is wrong.. help?!"

=[

People in P101 can be douchey for very little or no reason at all.

Elsa still spends a lot of the night in the boppy cradle in comfort bouncer next to our bed. I know it's not the best sleeping position for her, just like you're not supposed to let babies sleep all night in a carseat, but damn... at 3 AM this morning I handed her to my hubby and told him to put her in there because I needed to sleep and Miles was currently fussing at me.

We all do our best.

Edited because I'm sleep deprived enough that I left out several whole words. :P

I saw that post. I couldn't help roll my eyes a little bit when every single person pointed out to you that it was "dangerous" as though you may not be aware, even though your original post actually acknowledged that it was dangerous and that you were actually looking for a safer alternative.

I've posted on P101 less than 5 times...that community kind of scares me.

Liam is freaking adorable.

[identity profile] starfish11.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
P101 is like some kind of gladiator arena. Only it's easier for them to rip you to shreds because they know your weakness- it's being a mama and wanting to do the best for your kids and they know that's a weakness because it is for everyone on that community!
I hope Liam starts sleeping a bit better soon, they usually do after about twelve weeks. I checked out his hoodie photo too- omg adorable baby!
