True Blood

I am just so *over* this show.

The show is just one big giant mess. I tried to change my expectations this season, to expect just campy, guilty pleasure goodness, but it still wasn't enjoyable.

There's just no consistency with the characters, with the storylines or the storytelling. The world has no internal logic, major plot lines were just dropped and other plots just came out of nowhere.

This season was all about 'tell not show'. Rene's appearance in the finale just reminded me how awesome the first season was, where we didn't know that it was Rene behind it all, and how suspenseful and exciting it was. How exciting it was to find out Sam was a shifter. And how you could have pieced together both things if you were watching carefully.

Apparently this season we were told many times that Marnie was lonely, and treated like she didn't matter. All out of her own mouth. We didn't *see* any of it, so everything just rang false. Or like when we found out that it was Marnie in charge, not Antonia, well, it would have been nice to find out the same time Jesus did, you know?

And there was just so much anticlimactic stuff happening - like Marnie foreseeing herself being shot in the head - ooh wow, we know she loses, what's the point in the story now? Or this whole big thing with Marnie taking on Jesus' powers, for what end? Apparently a bit of salt and a nice big chat fixed it all.

Why did we spend so much freaking time in Hotshot for? Jason didn't turn into a werepanther. He wasn't traumatised. Maybe he's gonna be a babydaddy? It was just dropped! So frustrating.

Apparently murder isn't a big deal in Bontemps anymore. Lafayette could murder his boyfriend, Alcide can murder a little girl's daddy, and nothing seems to have come of it, law-wise. Sookie's just blown Debbie's head off when she didn't have to. WTF.

Tara seems to be dead, which I'm glad about - Adam is really sad about it, funnily enough, because it was driving me up the wall that she and Sookie seemed to be best friends, yet Sookie has no problem falling in love with a guy that tried to KILL HER. Tara's running around being raped and almost murdered, and Sookie's just falling in love with all of them!! GOOD FUCKING BEST FRIEND.

And what's the deal with Alcide? Someone told me that their relationship in the books grew quite organically. Yeah, not so much in the show. It's really offputting :(

Poor Pam. She's the best thing on this show.

Too many characters, too many storylines. They should learn from Game of Thrones that it's okay to not see a character or two every episode and pick up their storylines later. I felt that the human-shapeshifting story went nowhere. The Nan Flanagan story went nowhere. Arlene's baby story was tied up, but what was the point?! To show that Lafayette was a medium? Well he better learn how to stop swallowing souls against his own will.

The whole Jessica/Hoyt/Jason thing was alright. Though Deborah Ann Woll's 'no topless scenes' thing in her contract is REALLY distracting. You could practically see everything last night anyway, except she was kinda still covering herself and it was so unnatural :( Adam hates Jason's guts now for what he did to Hoyt. He was his favourite character, too :(

That whole thing with the fairies at the start of the season? WHAT WAS THE POINT?! Omg. I AM SO FUCKING OVER THIS.

I am, however, interested in Bill and Eric teaming up, if that happens. We'll see.
