I suppose an excuse you could use is "Oh, the baby has been sick - I wouldn't want you to touch him and get sick too".
and that way, it's like YOU are protecting THEM. (and you dont' feel bad for saying HEYDONTTOUCHMYBABY!!!!! lolol
