My brother in law's long time girlfriend (and presumably my sister-in-law-to-be) had this as her Facebook status update yesterday:

Wishes all the Asians would fuck off home and stop group bashing aussies fucking cowards

*sigh* I've always known her to be a bit racist and she barely ever speaks to me even though I've seen her once a week for the past 2 years. I don't know if there was a bashing recently, and even if there was, it's not like white Australians haven't been bashing up other white Australians, or Indians or Sudanese people or it's not like Asians have been solely bashing up on white Australians either as opposed to other Asians etc.

I just figured she'd know that I'd read it since we're Facebook friends? I was already offended when she joined all the racist Facebook groups like 'Fuck off we're Full'.

I don't really want to confront her because she's big and scary and well, I have to see her for the rest of my life. She's gonna be a future Aunt to my kids! That's so fucked up.

Yeah I don't know if I should comment on her status, and if I do, with what?

I was thinking just a 'you know I can read this, right?' but I dunno.

Adam's defriended her on Facebook. It's a little passive aggressive and I don't even know if she'd notice.

Yeah, I don't know. It's tempting to comment, but what's she going to say? "Oops, didn't mean to be racist in front of you" or "Yeah, I know you can read it"? It's not like there's any response she can make that can justify it. :-/

Defriending isn't just passive-aggressive, though. It's not just to "punish" her for saying that/joining those groups/etc., it's also a way to not have to see that kind of stuff.

Well yeah, but I can just have my settings so that her status updates don't come up on my notifications. I think I'd rather know that she was being crap than ignore it.

I guess I don't talk to her anyway so there's no point in confronting her.
